These two images were my first real experimentation in digital art in which I actually produced a clean, finished image. Both are more academic studies than they are actual works of art, mainly due to lack of composition and design, however they were significant to me nonetheless.
This piece of lineart was made using a reference for a sketch, which was simply produced in high resolution and refined to leave the line work. Pretty straight forward.
At this point I wasn't terribly comfortable with color yet, so to create the color rendering, I first made a new layer and worked in a grisaille (greyscale version) of the horse's form using simple combinations of round hard and soft brushes. The next stage was to simply make selections and digitally alter the color, rather than painting over it.
The look is a bit too graphic and flat for me, and from now on I think I will stick to actually painting with color to give work more form and texture.
